Annual Conference
Girl-serving organizations, after-school programs, K-12 teachers, counselors and professional organizations met April 18, 2008 for the Texas Girls Collaborative Project Kick-Off Conference , held at the Texas Club in Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium, The University of Texas at Austin. Participants
- learned how they could get involved in the TxGCP.
- connected with companies, not-for-profits, K-12 educators, community college educators, university educators, informal educators and others contributing to the advancement of girls in STEM fields from across Texas..
- gained access to $1,000 mini-grants for collaborative efforts; the first round of grants were open only to those organizations that participated in the Kick-Off Conference.
Five themes surfaced regarding the needs across the state and where the TxGCP can provide leadership in pre-college STEM initiatives targeting girls:
- Build Community and Collaborations across Texas
- Provide a Forum to share Resources/Ideas/Questions
- Catalogue and Share Information on STEM Programs and Informal Learning Curriculum across Texas
- Build Community, Public and Political Awareness across Texas
- Create Standards or Common Assessment of Programs
