Hi
everyone,
In
the last newsletter, we talked about building a
stronger STEM collaboration across Tennessee
by sharing information about STEM opportunities
for girls! One such award winning
opportunity is Expanding Your Horizons in
Mathematics and Science, better known as
EYH. Tennessee is the home to two EYH
conferences, in Memphis and in Murfreesboro.
The Middle Tennessee EYH is 15 years old
this October and the little sister, West
Tennessee EYH, is 4 years old!
The
mission of EYH is to encourage young women to
pursue science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) careers. Through EYH
conferences, we provide STEM role models and
hands-on activities for middle and high school
girls. Our ultimate goal is to motivate girls to
become innovative and creative thinkers ready to
meet 21st Century challenges. Go to the EYH
Network home page to learn more:

I
hope to see you at one of Tennessee's EYH
conferences this fall. Thank you for
supporting Girls Raised In Tennessee
Science!

News from MentorNet! |

MentorNet
Opens its Doors to Students from All Campuses. Any
qualified student with an '.edu' address can now
seek a mentor! The U.S now
ranks 27th in the world in the production of
graduates in science, technology, engineering and
math (STEM), while the global economy increasingly
requires engineers and scientists to enter the
workforce. To help address this critical need,
MentorNet is announcing this week that its program
is now open to all STEM students, especially woman
and minorities, from any campus. Please help us
spread the word. If you know a woman or minority
student who wishes to find a mentor in their
chosen field, tell them to go to www.mentornet.net, and hit
JOIN NOW or FIND A MENTOR. As long as they have an
.edu address and intend to enter any STEM field,
they will be eligible. We are launching a parallel
campaign to recruit mentors to serve the influx of
students we expect to serve, with our goal to
continue to match 95% of all
proteges.

Jennifer Ilsley, an MTSU senior who will graduate
with her degree in mathematical sciences in
December 2011. She came to the MTSU EYH as a
fifth grade student. As a college student,
Jennifer has presented EYH workshops on polymer
science and on math. She has also served as
