- Adventure Girls will be hosting summer sessions to expose girls to various careers in STEM.
There will be different offerings through June, July, and August including, amongst others, crime scene investigation to be held at the Skowhegan, Maine Police Department. Coastal Studies for Girls is looking for 10th grade girls to take part in the 16-week semester school. The school is due to open in January of 2010. - Maine Girls Collaborative Project Leadership Team members were invited to speak at the 2009 Maine EPSCoR State Conference, Monday, September 21, 2009
During an afternoon breakout session regarding broadening the participation of women and girls in STEM, Mary Madden, Associate Research Professor in Education at the University of Maine, facilitated a presentation titled, "Inspiring Girls in STEM Fields: From Research to Practice." Following that presentation, participants heard from Sharon Barker, MGCP Collaborative Lead and Director of the Women's Resource Center at the University of Maine, about the National Girls Collaborative Project with a special focus on the Maine Collaborative. Following this forum Vinitha Nair, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Platform Shoes Forum, led a discussion designed to gather information about possible ways to sustain NGCP beyond the grant.
