Overview
The Florida Girls Collaborative Project brings together organizations throughout the state that are committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Too often programs that serve girls in STEM are limited in service and impact due to size, location, funding, expertise and equipment. In other cases, projects compete with each other, duplicating services and seeking the same resources. The Florida Girls Collaborative provides the opportunity for programs to increase their ability to maintain interest and participation of girls in STEM within their regions through collaboration.
The Florida Girls Collaborative is based upon a model developed by the National Girls Collaborative Project, and replicated through a grant from the National Science Foundation. The model is structured to bring organizations together to compare needs and resources, share information, and to plan strategically to expand STEM-related opportunities for girls.
Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Provides Significant Support for STEM and Girls in the Local Community
Through a partnership with the St. Petersburg Times Newspapers in Education program, the Florida Girls Collaborative Project, and Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, a 12 page resource supplement was produced on the topic of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We hope you enjoy the fun activities and important resources made available through the NIE supplement distributed to all 6-8th grade students and teachers in early October, and subscribers of the St. Pete Times on Saturday, October 30. In addition, we’ve developed this site (www.gswcf.org/stem) to provide even more resources and links to upcoming STEM events in your area. Thanks to our generous funders for their support: Saunders Foundation, Inc., Florida Space Grant Consortium, Publix Super Market Charities, Girl Scouts of the USA, and Brighthouse Networks.
