Overview
Regional collaboratives host a variety of events for girl-serving organizations, educators, and business professionals in their areas. The project begins with a kick-off conference to announce the project and begin networking among the participants. The kick-off conference is followed by topic forums that provide professional development activities, highlight local programs, and continue the valuable networking experience. During this time, mini-grants are being awarded and carried out by local programs. An annual conference is held after the mini-grants are complete that allows the grantees an opportunity to present their projects to a large group. More professional development and networking activities are also offered at this event.
In addition to in-person events, NGCP hosts a series of free webcasts that present effective strategies for working with girls in STEM, including current research, program models and useful resources.
"Every event, whether it's NGCP or other STEM related function, has provided the opportunity to raise awareness about females and STEM, and more and more teachers, counselors, schools and service organizations are involved in addressing gender equity. There are several avenues for addressing STEM in Maine, and the results are synergistic."
