Mini Grant "Spark" Fuels Interest in Renewable
Energy
Over 30 girls participated in the 'Kenton County Girls in Renewable Energy'
mini-grant project at the J. D. Patton Area Technology Center. The
mini-grant, received from the Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative Project,
brought the field of renewable energy to life for elementary and middle
school girls in the Kenton County School District. The girls engaged in
the design and construction process of their own mini-wind turbine and a
solar cooking oven. Project sponsors hope the experience ignited a
'spark' that will impact the participants' future educational and career
choices.

Gender Equality Universally Embraced, But
Inequalities Acknowledged
These are the findings of a 22-nation survey by the Pew Research
Center's Global Attitudes Project. The majority of people express
support for gender equality and agree that women should be able to work
outside the home. Most also find a marriage in which both spouses share
financial and household responsibilities to be more satisfying than one
in which the husband provides for the family and the wife takes care of
the house and children.
