The New Year provides us with an opportunity
to reflect and to look forward. The National
Girls Collaborative Project experienced
tremendous growth in 2009, providing
professional development, resources, and
collaboration opportunities to more than 2500
programs in 28 states. We look forward to continuing to
support activities that provide value and
incentives to encourage organizations and
individuals to work together and to use the
leverage of a network or collaboration of
individual girl-serving STEM programs to
create the tipping point for gender equity in
STEM. To further address this goal, we are
planning our first National Collaboration
Conference for May 2010! We will have more
details and registration information
available in February.

Kentucky Forum Focuses on Girls in STEM
Careers
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce
partnered with the Kentucky Girls STEM
Collaborative at University of Kentucky to
offer a November forum to discuss the concern
over the under-representation of females in the
fields of science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics careers, despite the current
availability
of jobs in those areas. The forum's purpose
was to create awareness of STEM careers as
options for
girls, strengthen the connection to industry
needs related to STEM careers, highlight
successful STEM initiatives in Northern
Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati, and
strengthen understanding on how to help
students find their niche in STEM related
careers. The presenting sponsor was General
Cable and partners included Education
Alliance of Northern Kentucky.
