Barbara Bogue
Barbara Bogue is director and co-founder of the AWE (Assessing Women and Men in Engineering) Project and associate professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics and Women in Engineering at Penn State. The AWE Project develops and disseminates surveys for educational outreach, engineering self-efficacy and classroom climate. Previously, as director of the Penn State Women in Engineering Program, she initiated recruitment and retention programs recognized by WEPAN’s Women in Engineering Program and Penn State’s Outstanding Recruitment and Retention Awards.
Her work focuses on the application of research to practice, assessment and mentoring. Bogue co-chaired and was PI for the PAESMEM/AAAS Building Science, Engineering and Technology Leadership Workshop. The author of numerous publications, Bogue most recently co-authored Serving Up Science and Engineering (Especially for Girls), a guide to resources for educational outreach, and co-edits Applying Research to Practice (ARP) Resources, which provide introductory access to gender-related research. She has received WEPAN’s Betty Vetter Award for Research, the Rosemary Shearer Mentoring Award and a PAESMEM Award. Bogue serves the editorial board for SWE Magazine, the research advisory board for AAUW’s Why So Few and is a consultant for AAAS and several engineering, science and school organizations. Bogue received her M.Sc. in social sciences from the University of Southampton, U.K.
